Psychological Assessments

Psychological assessments are available in Griffith, NSW, with telehealth options for adults and older adolescents depending on the assessment type.

Assessments can explore cognitive, emotional, behavioural, or developmental concerns, including ADHD and autism assessments, as well as broader cognitive differences. Assessments may be sought to better understand long-standing difficulties, guide treatment, inform education or workplace planning, or support access to services where appropriate.

What an assessment involves

Assessments are structured and tailored to the referral question. Depending on the reason for assessment, this may include:

  • clinical interviews
  • standardised assessment tools
  • questionnaires or rating scales
  • review of relevant background information

The process is explained clearly at each step. Findings are summarised in a written report and discussed in a feedback session, with time to ask questions and consider next steps.

ADHD and Autism Assessments

ADHD and autism can present differently across gender, developmental stage, and personality. This includes how ADHD may present in females, and how both ADHD and autism can present in highly masked individuals. Some people work extremely hard to compensate, particularly in structured environments such as school or work. Academic performance alone does not determine whether neurodevelopmental differences are present.

Assessment considers developmental history, executive functioning patterns, sensory experiences, and social communication. Particular care is taken to understand masking, internalised symptoms, and long-standing adaptation strategies that may make difficulties less visible to others.

When both ADHD and autism traits are present, they can interact in complex ways. A strong preference for routine may help manage organisational difficulty, while a need for novelty may increase flexibility in some situations. In other cases, these traits can pull in opposite directions, contributing to stress or burnout. Assessment explores the whole pattern rather than viewing traits in isolation.

Assessment is conducted within a neuroaffirming framework. Tools are selected and interpreted with an understanding that neurodevelopmental differences are not deficits to be corrected, but patterns to be understood. The focus is on clarity, accurate formulation, and practical recommendations.

Where anxiety or low mood is also present, care is taken to consider whether these are primary conditions or whether they may reflect the cumulative cost of effort and overload.
